Park play equipment damaged

SIGNIFICANT damage has been reported to the play equipment at Weyroc Park in Annan.

A panel on the electrical kickwall at the state-of-the art park was ripped from its mounting, and the manufacturers had to attend to carry out repairs.

Councillor Sean Marshall this week condemned the destruction of the property and encouraged people to report issues and said he will ask police to increase patrols in that area.

The damage comes at the same time there have been ongoing reports of antisocial behaviour in the town and concerns that with the approaching lighter nights there will be an increase in nocturnal visitors.

In a social media post, the group behind the park – APPS Group – said: “With the good weather coming in and the park use beginning to increase, we are expecting the usual behaviour, vandalism and anti-social activities and reports that will no doubt happen at some point at the park.

“Can we please remind all of the Annan community that the Weyroc Park is a community park and as such, we are all responsible for reporting incidents to the correct authorities.

“If in doubt, you are more than welcome to report these things to this page and we will pass on all details to the authorities that need to be informed.

“Please be aware though that if you contact our page we may not be able to contact you or deal with it there and then as we are not always available to manage the page daily.”

People were asked not to contact committee members directly to report issues.
