Minister visits Dumfries factory

BUSINESS and Trade Minister Ivan McKee has visited Alpha Solway’s new manufacturing site at Heathhall.

He was accompanied by South Scotland MSP Emma Harper, second right, to discuss the businesses expansion, the continued impact of the covid pandemic and the firm’s work in creating medical grade face coverings with a clear screen, which are being supplied to NHS Scotland, to assist with those who are hard of hearing.

The pair heard how the company has gone from strength to strength over the last two years, but also about their struggles to recruit people to work in the manufacturing sector.

Ms Harper said: “Alpha Solway is a hugely important local employer. The company are an excellent example of how Scottish Government investment can support the private sector, and local jobs, to ensure resilience in our Scottish supply chain.

“The fact they have now opened the new factory at Heathhall Industrial Estate demonstrates their success and the commitment they have to our region.

“I wish all the team at Alpha Solway every success for the future and I look forward to continued engagement with them in the weeks to come.”
