All smiles at the sashing

ANNAN’S 2022 Riding of the Marches principals have been sashed and are hoping it’s now full steam ahead to the big day.

The sashing ceremony took place last Saturday in Newington Social Club with Mary Hamilton doing the honours, while many supporters and committee members watched on.

It was an extra special moment for Oran Keenan, Katie Anderson and Katy Nelson, who will finally get to be Cornet, Lass and Standard Bearer, respectively, this summer, after two years of disruption due to covid.

They were first selected in 2020 and received their sashes then but due to lockdown, never got to carry out any official duties.

A disco followed the sashing ceremony.

The next event on the Riding of the Marches calendar will be a sellout afternoon tea with the Queen of the Border, Caelan Ferguson, on Saturday May 7.

This year’s rideout dates have also been announced, there will only be four this year and they will take place on Wednesday June 8, Tuesday June 14, Wednesday June 22 and Monday June 27.

The Crowning of the Queen is scheduled for Friday June 24; Kirkin of the Cornet on Sunday June 26; the Cornets Ball on Wednesday June 29 and AROM day is Saturday July 2.
