PLANS to bring a mini supermarket to Lochmaben have taken a further step forward.

The latest set of drawings and plans for the proposed Co-op store have been lodged with the council by developers Sansec Developments, based in North Shields.
A design and access statement for the current car wash site on Bruce Street, and the garage to the rear, are now live on the local authority’s website.
The application has been revised to suit the pre-application comments, following consultation with the Dumfries and Galloway Council and residents of Lochmaben.
A ‘traditional approach’ was initially adopted, with a pitched roof similar to the adjacent listed building.
However in response to comments received, the roof height is to be lowered.
The design and access statement reads: “Considering the heritage consultant’s comments, the current application’s visual appearance has been altered to provide a more modern approach as opposed to a traditional one.
“The sloping roof replaces the traditional pitched roof in order to enhance the character of the adjacent listed building and the style of the existing street scene.”
The access to the site and car park have also been amended to suit highways comments, to include a two-way system to improve visibility, and parking provision has been increased.
Drawings show a total of 13 spaces, including one disabled and one for parent and child, as well as an area to park up to four bikes.
In addition, there will be ‘soft landscaping’ at the back to include seven new trees in orer to screen the shop from the loch side.
CEO of Sansec Developments Ben Harvey has encouraged members of the public to comment on the planning application.
Full details for the proposals can be found on the Dumfries and Galloway Council website, under reference number 22/0635/FUL.
Furthermore, the update will be discussed at Monday’s meeting of Lochmaben and District Community Council.
The meeting will take place in the library room of the town hall from 7 pm – all welcome.
