DALBEATTIE High School is the first school in the region to achieve an upgraded status as an SCQF ambassador.
The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework officially announced that the high school had achieved a bronze status.
It comes after it developed many external relationships with partners such as Dumfries and Galloway College and Council, Stewartry Active Schools and Community Sport, while local employer Jas P Wilson has been able to provide vocational learning opportunities whilst allowing practical experiences to take place.
Some of these courses include skills for work, national progression awards and foundation apprenticeships.
Alongside this, Dalbeattie’s ‘whole school approach’, pupil awareness and parental engagement has allowed the SCQF to recognise the high school’s achievements and elevate them to the bronze status.
Gillian Brydson, director of education and lifelong learning, said: “One of our council’s priorities is to give the best start in life for all our children and young people. The SCQF framework aims to help people of all ages to access appropriate education and training.
“In addition to qualifications, it can also include learning in the community or the workplace. Each child’s learning journey is different so being able to access different and appropriate education and training opportunities will help to provide them, with the best start in life.”
All secondary schools in Dumfries and Galloway are SCQF ambassadors. The organisation supports pupils by recognising wider achievement and looks at ways that schools can support pupils through wider learning experiences and opportunities.
