Langholm ready to choose Cornet

THREE candidates have stepped forward in the running to become the 2022 Langholm Cornet.

The Common Riding is a prestigious event in Langholm’s history, and the all-clear to proceed with a normal celebration this year was given in March.

The trio are all newcomers, but have a combined passion for and great knowledge of the Common Riding.

The first Cornet candidate is Stuart Albert, a 32-year-old working as a customer team member in a supermarket. He has served on the Common Riding committee since 2012, rode in the Common Riding for the first time in 2013 and joined Castle Craigs in 2014.

Ewan Patterson, 22, is another hopeful. He works in forestry, and has helped with the greybeards on the hill on Common Riding day for years. He also plays rugby for the LRFC.

Completing the contest is builder Ruairi Hotson, 21. He is a keen horseman who joined the Castle Craigs in 2009 at the age of eight before going on to ride the Common Riding in 2013 at 12. He has also recently become a retained firefighter at Langholm.

Voting for each candidate will be held at the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm from 6-8 pm tonight.
