Kids’ club to get funding boost

A GRASSROOTS football club for kids is appealing for shoppers’ help to boost their funds.

The Gretna FC 2008 Youth Academy has been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

And it needs support from those who shop in the supermarket.

Spokeswoman Claire Kirkpatrick said: “At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Gretna.

“We’re raising funds to provide access to football to all children in the local community, and to be able to buy new equipment and kit.

“Gretna FC Youth Academy aims to help all children who may be interested in playing football. We aim to help them learn about the game, get fit, have fun, and make friends. The club also looks to help children who may not have had the opportunity to join a club due to the fee costs. Our sessions are designed to educate age groups from the ages of 5-16.”

She explained how the football club brings the kids and their parents together and grows friendships, adding: “We hope by applying for funding for equipment that we can keep our fees as low as possible for families who may have been affected by the lockdowns and the current financial climate, but still want their kids to play football.”

Co-op members can select the youth academy as their good cause by visiting https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/59267.

Claire said: “We really hope that people will visit the Co-op website or download the Co-op app and select us as their local cause.”
