It starts at 2 pm when community council chairman Allan Weild will act as a town crier at the town hall. He will announce a specially written proclamation heralding the beacon lighting.
Annan is one of 2022 beacons nationwide being lit to mark Her Majesty’s platinum milestone.
The torchbearer for the town will be community councillor Joyce Wylie, pictured, who said: “It is a great honour for me to be asked to be light the beacon.”
She will perform her role at Watchhall Field in Watchhall Road at 9.45 pm exactly, to coincide with the national light up.
Just beforehand a piper from the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band will play a specially written piece, Diu Regnare, and a bugler from Annan Town Band will also officially announce the event with a call entitled Majesty.
There will also be entertainment at the site, including DJ Steven Rampage, music from the band Spectrum and fun from Grahame the juggler.
It is all being organised and overseen by Annan Community Council, who said: “We are proud to be part of this momentous celebration. It is only appropriate that this unique milestone in history is marked with beacons and music.
“We are honoured to be part of this special event for Her Majesty, The Queen’s 70th year as our monarch and Head of the Commonwealth on her Platinum Jubilee.”
The national beacons are being co-ordinated by Pageantmaster Bruno Peek. He said: “Building on a long tradition of lighting beacons to mark significant royal celebrations, thousands of beacons will be lit across the UK and the Commonwealth. They will enable local communities to join together to pay tribute to Her Majesty.
“The Queen has lit up our lives for 70 years through her dedicated service and commitment. We would like to light up the nation and the Commonwealth in her honour.”
