Closeburn Gala - What you need to know

CLOSEBURN gala is fast approaching, and a fun-filled and free week of festivities is planned.

Sarah Currie, the chairperson of the Closeburn gala committee, said:

“We are so happy to be having our gala week this year after having to cancel for the last two years.

“We are so grateful for not only the understanding from the community, but also the amazing support we have had for our alternative fundraising efforts.

“Because of this, all of our events through the week will be free entry to all, and we have an amazing week planned.”

The Gala week will begin on Sunday June 19 at the Parish Church at 10 am, with the crowning of the Queen, Anna McKinley, in the presence of her attendants Kerry McKnight and Phamie Smith, as well as Page Maxim Dangubic.

At 11.30 am there will be a magic show at the playing fields, alongside a tuck shop and a barbecue, before closing off the day with a friendly game of rounders.

On Monday June 20 there will be a junior football tournament at the school playing fields, at 6.30 pm.

On Tuesday June 21 the garages on Firmuir Avenue will host a walking treasure hunt at 6.30 pm.

An annual family quiz will be hosted at the Village Hall on Wednesday June 22 at 6.30 pm. There are limited seats, so call Sarah on 07921525296 to book a table.

From 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm there will be a kids disco at the Village Hall on Friday June 24.

And Saturday June 25 will be the day of the Gala, from 8 am until late. There will be a fancy dress judging at the garages on Firmuir Avenue at noon, and the pipe band parade will travel to the playing fields at 12.30 pm.

Splash inflatables and quad bikes will be free for children to use all afternoon, and there will be a barbecue, a tea tent, a tuck shop, a tombola and the grand prize raffle.
