Elaine Lamb became unwell with the condition last year and credits her GP for quickly spotting the signs and getting her in the system quickly.
After gruelling chemotherapy and extensive surgery two weeks before Christmas, Elaine is now on the long road to recovery and has so far raised over £800 which was donated to the labs at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.
At Christmas Elaine and some friends, Fiona Jamieson and Maggie Freeman, knitted covers for Chocolate Oranges, and another friend Edward Chadfield made personalised Christmas tree decorations.
And this week Elaine said: “I’m just so thankful to all my friends who supported me, as well as my family and my partner.
“I’m lucky to be here really and I have to return the favour.”
On her first visit to the doctors and after a quick examination, Elaine was told she had the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and that she would get very unwell.
Elaine said: “That’s what I needed, I need someone to be direct like that. I needed to know the facts.”
However, the surgery was successful, Elaine says they ‘got it all out’ and now she is working on getting back up to her normal strength.
She hopes to complete a sponsored walk, when she is able to, and already has lots of offers of help and support.
