New signings

A FLURRY of new signings have been announced by Queen of the South and Annan Athletic this week.

Queen of the South manager Wullie Gibson continues to strengthen his squad for the challenging season in League One that lies ahead with a treble signing.

Experienced shot stopper Max Currie has joined from Airdrie.

The boss said: “I’ve known Max since he was a young man sitting on Stranraer’s bench and have tracked his progress since.

“When Josh let us know he was moving on, Max was immediately one of the first names I thought of to replace him.”

The Doonhamers have also signed centre back Stuart Morrison from Championship bound Queens Park and full back Rico Quitongo who was most recently with Peterhead.

On the other two signings Gibson said: “Stuart is a ball playing centre half and brings a physical presence to our back line.

“Rico is a capable full back at this level and has plenty of experience under his belt now.”

Euan East, Aidan Fitzpatrick, Lee Connelly and Alex Cooper are yet to sign up for next season.

All their contracts at Palmerston finished on May 31.

Meanwhile, Annan Athletic have announced that striker Tommy Muir has returned to the club.

The popular goalscorer was a fans favourite during his first spell where he netted 24 times in two seasons.

Speaking about the move, Tommy said: “I’m delighted to be back, I’m really looking forward to working under Peter and his staff again and can’t wait to get started.

“I’m excited to play with some of my good friends again, it will also be extra special with it being Steven Swinglehurst’s testimonial year.”

Muir first joined Annan from Dalbeattie Star in July 2018 and has since had spells with Stenhousemuir and Stranraer.

Steven Swinglehurst has also agreed terms which will see him go into his tenth year at Galabank. There will be a testimonial match for the 29-year-old defender on Sunday July 3 where an Annan Athletic legends team will play a Back Onside Select.

Annan have also announced the departure of fellow striker Iain Anderson, who has left to join Lochar Thistle.
