GLENCAPLE and Bankend residents have expressed concerns about the route for this year’s British National Road Championships.

The day-long cycling event on June 23 will take a circular route through the two villages, cutting off any other traffic in the area.

Residents say they were not consulted about the route before the event was announced earlier in the year.

Nith ward Councillor David Slater has received several complaints and yesterday said: “It appears that the residents haven’t been contacted.

“Also, the fact that there are vehicles and motorhomes that park in a little field just as you go into the reserve: how will these people know if the road is closed and could they just drive on to the road and accidents could happen?

“There is a lot of issues with this, and answers must be forthcoming.”

Meanwhile, British Cycling hosted a meeting with residents and businesses on yesterday, and the issue is still ongoing.
