Super seven limber up for peaky weekend

SEVEN Dumfries women are taking on the Three Peaks for charity this weekend.

The friends will drive 1000 miles in total, walk 23 miles and ascend over 10,000ft to the tops of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales, all within 24 hours.

The group is made up of Nicole Halliday, Katisha Atkinson, Laura Gibson, Kirsty Richards, Caitlin McEwan, Shanna Stitt and Ashleigh Hannah.

The money raised by the ladies’ effort will be split between two local charities, the First Base Agency and Dumfries and Galloway Mental Health Association (DGMHA).

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Ashleigh Hannah said: “We are all pretty experienced hikers but this is going to be a massive test of both our mental and physical strength. We are feeling good about the challenge but nervous. Hoping the weather is on our side!”

Ashleigh and the rest of the group will begin their challenge at Ben Nevis at 5 pm, then tackle Scafell Pike at 4 am and begin their final climb at Snowden by lunchtime on Saturday.

As part their fundraising efforts the ladies have arranged a raffle and would like to thank all the local businesses for donating prizes for our raffle and also to Tesco extra for snacks and water and to Rico’s Annan road for making the group breakfast rolls on Saturday morning.

The group aims to raise £2000 and has set up a Just Giving page for. donations, at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/teamthreepeaks?utm_term=N6avKNaRd
