Summer book hunt launched by mum

CHILDREN’S books have been hidden around Annan by one mum who’s hoping to encourage reading in youngsters.

Nicola Green started Find A Book Annan at the weekend and, with the help of her four-year-old daughter Charlotte, she has secreted ten books across the town.

Finders are encouraged to send photos of themselves with their gift to her Facebook page, ‘Nics Little Books for BIG Imaginations In Partnership with Usborne’ with the hashtag #findabookannan.

Nicola said: “I started this to give children a chance to find a brand new book while out on walks and I’ve asked them to rehide for others to find too once they’ve read it.

“It’s also meant to help with the educational summer slide where children can forget up to 38 per cent of what they have learned over the summer holiday break and helps them with their reading, writing and expanding their imagination.”

It’s already captured the attention of Charlotte who is excited for other children to find the books and is monitoring her mum’s page to see who has been lucky.

Nicola plans to keep it going over the summer holidays and is also in touch with firms in the town to see if they would like to donate towards more books. Anyone who would like to help, can contact her at [email protected], with all donors being recognised in future hides.
