ANNAN’S drum major came third in the World Pipe Band Championships on Saturday.
Gibb Fraser has been playing with the Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band for 14 years and has already seen varying degrees of success with six major championships to his name.
His current awards have all been for the juvenile categories, three for Scotland, two for World Championships and one for European Championships.
But after a two-year break from covid and turning old enough to participate in the adult categories, Gibb faced his toughest challenge yet on Saturday.
He said: “Juvenile is one thing, but playing with adults is another challenge.
“With missing two years from covid it felt good to get back to it this year, getting together again with everyone again seeing the band and the friends that I made through this as well.
“This has been built up on years of practice and to go up into adults in only my second year there and to be placing at these big contests is good for me and good for the band.”
Collectively, the band end the 2022 season with a fourth place finish in Grade Two at the World Pipe Band Championships.
A spokesman for the band said: “We have had an incredible season, picking up prizes at every Championship this year and winning the European Championship.
“The hard work will soon begin over this winter to ensure the band stays at the top of Grade Two for the coming 2023 season.
“Thank you to everyone that has supported the band throughout the year.”
