Margo McClumpha has taken the reins at The Medieval Bruce Heritage Trust, also known as the Bruce Trust, following their AGM on Tuesday.
She has extensive experience in chairing boards and committees and is a former secretary of the trust and is the first female chairperson to be elected since it was founded in 1999.
Margo said: “The pandemic crisis of Covid-19 forced isolations and social distancing which had a very negative effect on the trustees and its membership.
“The Trust’s aims are to provide educational talks to schools and community groups. Past events hosted by the Trust have proved to be very successful. We hope to build on past activities, recruit new trustees and members.”
Passionate about history and genealogy, Margo pointed out that Dumfries and surrounding areas are rich in medieval history. She said: “The historical times of King Robert the Bruce include nobility and local people; their way of life, how they lived and died. The food they ate, their clothing and work environment. Dumfries has a historical connection to Robert the Bruce which has ensured its place in the history books.
“History is a popular pastime and The Medieval Bruce Heritage Trust is where history and community meet to discover the richness and the poorness of the people during that time.”
