THE region came out as third best, only beaten by Conwy in Wales and Fort William, the latter claimed the top spot.
GO Outdoors selected the best spots for family-friendly camping, based on factors such as price, the percentage of campsites with kids’ playgrounds and the percentage of campsites ideal for young children.
Dumfries and Galloway family camping scored 8.04/10 as 73 per cent of all campsites in the area were found to be ideal for older children, with 63 per cent ideal for young children and 40 per cent offering a kids’ playground. The average cost of a medium tent for a family is around £20 – the lowest in the top three. Ninety-five per cent of the campsites in the area are pet-friendly as well.
