The Gretna Green Group Ltd this week announced they had made a successful bid on Gretna Old Church Hall.
It follows weeks of debate and controversy after the building was put up for sale, with many residents worried they would lose the popular parking spot.
Announcing the good news, Lucy Houston, director of Gretna Green Group, said: “I am delighted to tell you that Gretna Green Ltd has today found out that our bid to buy the Church Hall at Gretna Green was successful. In doing so, we are delighted to offer the use of car park to the users of the Stormont Hall and the community. We will maintain the car park and it will be available for all to use.
“As one of the trustees of the Stormont Hall, I know how worrying the news of the sale was to the hall users. I hope this news will reassure.
“As a company we will be using the Church Hall, but we don’t yet know what for.”
Responding to the development, Isabell Tranter, chair of Springfield and Gretna Green Community Council, said: “Things are looking bright for Gretna with this successful offer.
“It has been an extremely tense time in the community due to the Church Hall being put on the market and the prospect of losing business when the car park is sold.
“But Lucy Houston is a trustee of Stormont Hall and Springfield Playing Field, and she has already offered use of the park to users of Stormont Hall. We are delighted with this outcome.”
