Cash for tackling poverty in the Stewartry

COMMUNITY projects which help tackle poverty and inequalities in the Stewartry will be able to apply for support funding from next week.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has made a cashpot of nearly £40,000 available and this will be opened up to projects that support struggling people in the community.

The priorities for funding are organisations which support digital connectivity, food shortages, supporting independent living for vulnerable people, fuel poverty, upskilling/employability, and more.

This tackling poverty and inequalities budget will be discussed at Stewartry Area Committee next Wednesday.

The report states: “One hundred percent of the total funding costs from Dumfries and Galloway Council for projects will not be considered.

“Applications must highlight all external funding which has been both applied to and secured towards the costs of their overall project.

“Due to the rurality of the Stewartry area, all applications must demonstrate how they will provide transport and digital connectivity as part of the overall project submission.

“This can be completed in partnership with other organisations. Applications will only be accepted for projects which will be delivered within the Stewartry area.

“Applications from religious groups will only be considered for projects which do not include religious activities.”

Council officers are proposing that the £39,840 fund is open to applications from September 26 and the deadline set at October 24.

Scoring assessments would then be done for each application and councillors would decide on how to allocating the funds at the committee meeting on November 16.

Councillors are expected to approve opening up the fund for applications next week.
