AN ANIMAL expert has been praised for launching new workshops for adults with disabilities.

Owner of the Crazy Critters Experience, Luke Mitchell, from Beattock, announced last Friday that Crazy Critters will now offer workshops for adults within the learning disability community.

Luke has been developing the workshop for five years and recently met with Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Social Work team to discuss the new service.

The workshops will mainly cater to ages 18+ through referrals from the social work team, aimed at those looking to overcome barriers from challenging behaviours, autism, sensory issues, communication and relationship barriers.

Exposure to animals has been known to have a therapeutic effect, as Luke explained: “Through developing this workshop we have discovered we can help improve diet, quality of life, relationship barriers, sensory issues, social skills and much more just through our fun, interactive programmes we run through the workshop.

“This is something we’ve wanted to do and have been working on for some time so to have it become a reality is really exciting ”

Support for the workshops came in droves online, with some hoping that the service will expand into the central belt and Ayrshire.

The workshops are set to welcome young people and adults by the end of 2023.
