Last show of summer

FINAL preparations are being made for the last agricultural show of the season this weekend in Langholm.

The Castleholm will be the place to be on Saturday from 8.30 am for livestock, entertainment, stalls, sports and socialising.

It’s the 170th show and the weather forecast is looking good.

Chairwoman Michelle Jardine and her team are busy setting up the showground and are hoping for a good turnout.

It gets going with pony judging, followed by the livestock classes and young handlers. The industrial and baking winners will be decided from 10 am and the dogs at 10.30 am and pet show an hour later.

Vintage vehicles will leave the Co-op at 10.30 am heading for the field.

Entries will be taken on the day for the Cumberland Wrestling and tug of war.

Langholm Young Riders is at 1 pm, while the parade of champions and prizegiving is scheduled for 2 pm in the main ring.

Also on the day, Langholm Pipe Band will play, there will be children’s sports, falconry displays and terrier racing and the programme will end, as always, with the South of Scotland Sheaf Tossing competition.
