MAKING DOUGH. . . Chloe Thorburn selling her baked goods at Caledonia Park on Sunday

A CHAPELKNOWE woman has left her job to become a baker after being inspired by the Great British Bake-Off.

Chloe Thorburn set up a stall on Sunday at Caledonia Park in Gretna to sell her homemade wares after finally deciding to bake full-time.

Living on a dairy farm, Chloe uses the milk from her own cows and eggs from local farmers in Tyndale, making sure to support local businesses and farmers when she bakes.

The Great British Bake-Off is one of Chloe’s favourite programmes to watch. And after losing her job due to the pandemic and getting into baking while working at a dog kennel, she finally decided to strike out on her own just in time for the new season of the hit TV show.

Chloe said: “Prior to Chlo’s Cakes, I had a full-time job on a horse racing yard for over five years, but because of covid I lost my job, which I know many other people found themselves in the same situation.

“I found a job in a local dog kennels which I really have loved! And I started to bake more and more. Alongside working full time it’s been a very tiring year building a customer base, but I’m hoping the hard work will pay off.

“I’m finally making a go of it as my full-time business, as of two weeks ago I have made the jump and I’m no longer employed. It’s a scary feeling, but I’m excited to see what the future holds for me.

“I’m hoping to make regular appearances in Caledonia Park, increase my online sales, and get my name out there for celebratory cakes.”

Chloe has also considered applying for the next season of the Great British Bake-Off, though she may hold of while her business is still blooming.
