ANNAN Riding of the Marches partnered with Aldi to give Newington Primary School students sweet treats for Halloween.
As an annual event, the local supermarket gave away hundreds of pounds worth of crisps, lemonade, fruit and chocolate bars last Friday, the last day of school before half-term.
Riding of the Marches convener Stuart Thompson placed the names of all the local schools into a hat, with the winner of the draw receiving the goodies, and Newington Primary won.
On the day Stuart went down to hand out the treats, Newington was having a non-school uniform day with pupils having the option to wear costumes based on what they want to be when they grow up.
Stuart said: “We put names into a hat and Newington won, so I took all the treats generously given by Aldi to Newington on Friday.
“A tremendous amount of thought was put into the costumes that the children wore. There were doctors, policemen, astronauts, race car drivers and more.
“All of the children were really happy with what they got, it was a fantastic start for their holiday away from school.
“It is commendable that Aldi put so much effort into the gesture, as well as their aid with other projects such as Riding of the Marches.
“The young people of the community are the future, and it is extremely generous of them to donate all of these treats for so many children.”
