KNITTERS in Annan are helping the community’s most vulnerable stay warm this winter.
The ‘Bank up for Blankets’ project, hopes to provide warm blankets to local residents struggling to afford heating over the coming winter months.
The project started as individuals and community groups knitting cosy blankets and squares of all sizes which are then sewn together into beautiful colourful blankets.
Now with the support of Annan and District Rotary Club several sherpa blankets have been purchased to be given away, where they are most needed.
Knitter Jane Simons has been part of the project since the beginning and is delighted that more people will benefit. She said: “ It started as a small group of us knitting a square at a time, now with the help of the Rotary so many more people are going to benefit from it.
“I can’t sort out all the problems in the world but I do know how to knit, and if I can help someone vulnerable be more comfortable this winter it’s worth it.”
The handmade and sherpa blankets are being given away through welfare support channels within the community including Kate’s Kitchen, Annan Churches and the Day Centre.
