Success for top bar owner Sasha

A BAR owner from Moffat has been named Scottish Licensee of the Year.

Sasha Carlyle, who runs Hugo’s, triumphed at the SLTN competition.

The prestigious hospitality award recognises the licensee who has worked hard with the best interests of the Scottish hospitality sector at heart, improving standards and running a first class outlet.

The family-run bar and restaurant opened three years ago in the former Weavers shop in Moffat, and now Hugo’s is at the heart of the community.

Sasha was nominated for the award by her dad Jim Hughes who sadly passed away earlier this year.

She hopes to carry on the legacy of her father and said: “I’m absolutely proud as punch to have won, my dad had nominated me without telling me so it was a surprise when I was emailed about it.

“I never thought for a second that someone like me from a small town would win this award, especially since the other nominees have been in hospitality longer than me. So this is definitely a fitting tribute to my dad.”

Sasha attended the awards ceremony at the Hilton in Glasgow with her husband Roddy, who was just as, if not more, pleased than she was, as Sasha explained: “When it was announced that I had won, Roddy was jumping up and down and cheering, you’d have thought Rangers had scored a goal or something.”
