DUMFRIES twin town association, the Gifhorn Friends Group, welcomed German visitors for the first time since the pandemic last month.
The 26 German members visited the area at the end of last month, for the first time since the pandemic.
The two towns have participated in visitor exchanges since 1994, only taking a break because of travel restrictions during the pandemic.
During their latest visit, the programme included a visit to Dumfries Museum, a trip to Kirkcudbright and a game of darts at The Globe Inn.
They also braved the elements for a guided walk of Dumfries’ historical sites and buildings, followed by a buffet lunch.
Other activities included an afternoon at Moat Brae and an evening of entertainment which included John Caskie, accompanied by accordionist Kenny Prentice, who sang some Scottish songs, as well as pipe major of the Buccleuch and Queensberry Pipe Band accompanied by a further piper and drummer who played a melody of Scottish tunes. Two Highland dancers completed the evening.
A stop off at Gretna and Hadrian’s Wall finished the exchange.
A spokesman said: “It was a short visit but friendships were renewed and new friendships made. Preparations are already underway for members of the Gifhorn Friends Group to visit Gifhorn next year.”
