POLICE Scotland will be arranging specific patrols through Gretna during the evenings to prevent more anti-social behaviour on buses.
This comes after a meeting between Police, Stagecoach and Gretna and Rigg Community Council this week following the indefinite restriction of buses stopping at Gretna Central Avenue bus stop.
Anti-social behaviour has been occurring at the bus stop over the last few months, with restrictions slapped on evening services as a result.
In a statement on the issue, a Stagecoach spokesperson said: “By tampering with operational elements of our vehicles, individuals are jeopardising the safety of not only themselves, but also others.
“We are sadly left with no other option than to stop serving these stops after 7 pm at night, and at no stops in Gretna other than Crossways Garage and Gretna Gateway.”
Officers from Police Scotland met bus bosses on Monday to hear more and discuss possible solutions.
Annan sergeant Scott McDowall has also spoken to the local head office in Carlisle regarding the matter.
He said: “It is a serious problem and patrols will be arranged to nip the problem in the bud.
“In the meantime, anyone who sees this anti-social behaviour should report it, as commutes between Gretna and Carlisle are necessary to some.”
