Mountain mission for parent trio

MOLE catcher, a vet and a deer farmer will venture up three peaks this weekend to raise money to resurface an ‘unsafe’ playground.

Applegarth Primary parents Kevin Black along with Gareth and Emma Boyes will attempt to climb Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis in less than 24 hours this weekend, helped by designated drivers George Teesdale and Alison McCormack, also parents of pupils.
The first time Three Peak Challengers are fundraising to help make a dent in the £22,288 plus VAT bill to resurface Applegarth Primary’s playground.
Emma, who runs Millbank Venison, said: “The aim is to ensure that our playground area is suitable for PE, whilst still allowing space for play.
“At present the main playground area is a rectangular piece of low-grade tarmac. The site is on a significant slope, is very uneven, and causes lots of grazes and cuts due to the quality of the surface.”
The plan is to level off the whole area and then establish two separate areas by putting up a dividing
fence with access gate.
Emma added: “The first would be laid with an all-purpose surface which would be marked out for team games such as football and tennis.
“On the second area the tarmac surface would be replaced and upgraded and new games painted or installed for free play activities.”
Emma explained that the playground has been in need of re-surfacing for several years and has called the Three Peaks a ‘challenge of a lifetime.’
