Cold weather calls treble

A HOUSING group say they are working flat out to help more tenants than ever affected by the cold snap.

And as temperatures stay low, Wheatley Homes South is urging residents to take extra care during the winter season.

With weather dropping below freezing frequently over the last week, there have been more cases locally of pipes freezing and boilers breaking, which has put a strain on both local residents and the Wheatley Group.

Spokesman Peter Mohan said yesterday: “We’re doing all we can to support our customers during this extremely cold spell.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience while we deal with an unprecedented number of calls.

“We’re taking three times as many calls due to the extreme cold weather. We’ve brought in extra staff to help and we also have a call-back system to save customers waiting on the phone.”
