AS the the January transfer window enters into the final few weeks, Annan Athletic manager Peter Murphy is not losing any sleep over his side’s lack of transfer activity so far.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that Reece Lyon has agreed to extend his loan deal from Morton until the end of the current campaign. The 22-year-old midfielder has been a constant in the starting 11 since arriving at the League Two club.
Apart from that, the boss has nothing else to report on at the moment.
Murphy said: “There is nothing at the minute. I think for teams like ourselves and other lower league teams, we let the bigger teams go about their business first in January.
“Players that are surplus to requirements then become available later on.
“There is no immediate rush to do anything.
“Max’s loan deal expires at the end of this month so we will have to wait and see about that.”
Last Saturday the Black and Golds fell to a 2-0 defeat at Galabank against Forfar in their first outing of 2023.
Murphy said: “It was disappointing. We have had a lot of chances, again much the same as the Dumbarton game.
“Last week we came up against a really good goalkeeper who made a couple of great saves in the match.
“I was disappointed with the result but delighted at the way we went about our business.”
The gaffer now wants to see his side go and pick up three points away to third place Elgin when the two meet for the fourth time this campaign on Saturday.
Since Annan trounced the Borough Briggs side 4-0 in July in the League Cup, they have gone on to suffer back to back defeats to The Black and Whites, including a 5-1 horror show away defeat in October.
Murphy added: “It was a disappointing defeat up there last time when we got beat 5-1.
“We certainly go up there on Saturday with something to prove.
“They have a very good striker in Kane Hester. Last time we managed to keep him quiet. But Brian Cameron ended up scoring two very good goals.
“We feel like we can beat anyone on our day.”
