A SECOND Brydekirk family have spoken about the impact of living in a damp house.
After resident Joanne McEwan shared her story of how damp had caused her to develop serious health issues, Jennifer McKenzie was spurred on to speak about her family’s problems.
Jennifer and husband Connor moved into their house in Warmanbie Road 13 years ago and faced issues immediately.
The mum-of-three said: “The damp is only on the walls that are on the side of the alleyway and the front of our house.
“It is in the bedroom of my two boys, and it has already gone through one of their chest of drawers and is on several other units, which are soaked with water.
“The carpet was completely soaked with damp, and it has only recently been fixed. I’ve been cleaning it all with bleach until recently.
“We contacted the Wheatley Homes Group and they sent someone over to clean it with fungicidal wash.
“The living room has also had an insulated thermal plasterboard installed, and the damp has lessened now, but we still aren’t damp-free.
“The man that arrived to clean it took pictures of the damp to send to the housing officer, but he doesn’t know if that will help us to get it sorted.”
Discussing the impact on the family, she added: “I have two young boys and a girl, and three people in our household have asthma, with one of my boys recently being admitted to hospital with bronchiolitis.
“Both of my sons have ADHD and the damp in the house is preventing my children from playing in their room or giving them a space to be alone.”
Responding, a spokesperson for landlords Wheatley Homes South said: “We take all reports of mould and damp very seriously and act quickly to get them fixed as soon as possible. We’ve recently put in an extra ventilation system to help this customer.
“Staff were in contact with the family this week to find a suitable date for our repairs team to carry out a further inspection. This visit will now take place on Monday January 23.”
