AN Annan landlord is hosting a fundraiser this weekend to help cheer up a toddler who is going through treatment for cancer.
Sunday’s charity event at The Commercial is in aid of two-year-old Maisie Anderson who has a cancerous tumour behind her eye called skull base rhabdomyosarcoma. She was diagnosed in October and is currently undergoing treatment at Glasgow Children’s Hospital.
Publican John Steel hopes the money raised can be used to give her some treats and fun during this tough time.
He has planned a full afternoon of live music with seven different acts scheduled to perform, including himself. Also featuring will be The Royal Burgh of Annan Pipe Band, Bob Hollis, Billy Craik, Frankie B, Kelvin J Wood and Shaunie Craig.
John said: “I was contacted by a member of staff, she happened to mention Maisie and I said once Christmas and New Year was by with we would do something to raise money.
“The money is not for treatment; it is to cheer Maisie up.
“Originally I was going to be singing live and then we decided to make it a wee bit bigger and get some friends to come along and sing.
“Since then acts have been coming forward and offering their services. “We’ve now got seven acts including myself.
“It starts at 2 pm with the card bingo and it will run till about 8 o’clock.
“We also have collection tins in the pub and we will have a draw going on as well.”
All staff working on Sunday have agreed to donate their wages to Maisie, while floods of donations and messages of support have been sent across on social media.
Maisie’s mum, Jade Logan, has been overwhelmed by all the support shown locally.
She said: “We’ve had so many people messaging. The support has been unreal. Everybody has been very kind and they have all had so many nice words to say.”
