Disruption across rail services this week

RAIL operator TransPennine Express has announced that their services will be severely disrupted across the week until Sunday.

This is due to the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) and the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF).

Both unions are planned to strike on February 1 and February 3, and TransPennine express has issued guidance and warnings for people not to travel on these dates.

Alongside this, services will be severely impacted on the days following these strikes, being February 2 and February 4, and commuters are being asked to only travel on these dates if it is absolutely essential.

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Service and Operations Director for TransPennine Express said: “The fresh strike action planned for the start of February will once again, cause severe disruption to our services, as well as those across the country.

“Sadly, we won’t be able to run any trains at all on the strike dates, with a very limited timetable in place on the days following each strike and are urging our customers to follow the guidance provided.”

On the other hand, Scotrail has announced that their schedules will continue as normal with no disruptions across the week. David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “No ScotRail services will be affected by this week’s upcoming strike action.

“It is disappointing to see more widespread disruption across the Great Britain at a time when the railway needs to be doing everything it can to encourage more people to travel by train.

“The dispute between the trade unions and other train operators does not involve any ScotRail staff, which means ScotRail services will operate as normal on Wednesday, 1 and Friday, 3 February.”

Anyone planning essential travel with TransPennine Express on the days after each strike is strongly advised to plan ahead, check their journey very carefully and allow extra time when travelling as further disruption is likely.

Journey planners have been updated to reflect the changes to services over this period and the latest information on the strike impact can be found here.
