Farmers’ Choir ready to raise the roof

THE popular Farmers’ Choir is hosting a fundraising concert in Dumfries next week.

The event at the Easterbrook Hall is in aid of RSABI, which supports people in Scottish agriculture.

It will take place on Saturday February 25 and feature popular hits from Les Miserables, Lion King and The Greatest Showman.

Choirmaster Kate Picken, who is a music teacher from a farm in Dumfries and Galloway, said: “RSABI is a charity that is very close to our hearts. The Farmers’ Choir is delighted to be performing at Easterbrook Hall to support this worthwhile cause.

“It is well known that farming is a higher risk occupation for experiencing mental health problems and we want to send out a positive message of hope and encouragement through our performance, reminding farming folks that it’s ok to be not ok and help is at hand.”

Carol McLaren, chief executive of RSABI, expressed their gratitude to the choir for their support and for helping to raise awareness of mental health, adding: “Events like this are also a great opportunity for people to get together and enjoy each other’s company. We hope that people will be inspired to invite someone they haven’t seen for a while to come out and join them at the concert at the end of this month.”

The show will be sponsored by Tarff Valley and tickets cost £20 with all profits being donated to RSABI. Get them at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-farmers-choir-fundraising-concert-tickets-518671028007

Behind the scenes on new Lockerbie drama

A NEW series based on parts of the Lockerbie Disaster is now showing on Sky this week. Featuring Colin Firth and Catherine McCormack, ‘A Search for Truth’ was inspired by the memoirs of Dr Jim Swire, who lost his daughter Flora in the 1988 tragedy. Filming took place in Scotland and Morocco in early 2024 and Annandale Herald editor Fiona Reid went on the set to meet the cast and crew and find out more about it.
