ELEVEN Dumfries and Galloway College art and design students have been working on reimagining the Stranraer Town Trail.
The trail, which was created by Stranraer and District Historic Society several years ago, takes visitors around some of the town’s most historic and interesting buildings and provides interesting information via prominently placed blue plaques on walls along the way.
The young people from the town’s college campus are also working on creating sculptures to present to a panel in March, in the hope of funding being made available for them to be created.
The Historic Society has kindly gifted the students several publications to assist with research for the sculptures. The arts and engagement officer and place plan project manager for the local Development Trust, plus a representative from the Reuse Shop, will form the decision-making panel.
Students have been given the brief that sculptures should reflect a ‘real life’ scenario, which will both challenge them and will hopefully help them gain invaluable employability skills. The Historic Society has also offered to give a prize to the best sculpture presented.
Joanna Campbell, Dumfries and Galloway College principal, said: “We look forward to seeing the finished sculptures and are excited to see how the reimagining of Stranraer’s Town Trail by our NC Art and Design students will look. We know they are all working very hard, and we are proud of their efforts so far.”
