Bottle scheme welcomed

SCOTLAND’S new Deposit Return Scheme will be a turning point for recycling and waste, say Green Pary members in Dumfries and Galloway.

Regional spokesperson Laura Moodie also believes it will lead to even more beautiful surroundings locally.

She said: “The Deposit Return Scheme will make a huge difference for Dumfries and Galloway. We have such beautiful scenery and nature, but that all too often it is blighted by discarded litter that can easily be recycled.

“That is why I am delighted that so many retailers and businesses in Dumfries and Galloway are preparing for the scheme. Everyone across the region can be confident that the vast majority of the bottles and cans that they see in their local shops will be included.”

She is confident the scheme will ‘come to be seen as one of the most important pieces of work ever done’ by the Scottish Parliament, adding: “It will also set the model for how successful deposit return schemes can operate across the UK.”
