Annan trio all smiles after marathon

THREE local runners are footsore after success in the London Marathon on Sunday morning.

Colin Walker, 52; 62-year-old Liz Dawson and 27-year-old Rowane Glendinning are all delighted to have completed the famous race.

Colin saw the marathon as a challenge to improve himself and had been training since Christmas to take part in it.

He finished in a comfortable four hours and 15 minutes and said: “It was an absolutely incredible experience and I enjoyed every single moment of it. The crowds really do keep you going.

“Going over Tower Bridge was pretty special, as was turning at Buckingham Palace and seeing the finish line on the Mall.

“I definitely caught the marathon bug. I aim to do more in the future.”

Liz Dawson was running in support of a friend’s daughter who is being treated for blood cancer. She had planned to train more, but a surprise injury had caused her to feel apprehensive about the marathon.

But this week Liz said: “The run went great. I wanted to run to soak up the atmosphere as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event, and the entire event was fabulous.

“I ran a lot better than I had anticipated too, and ended up with a time of four hours and 50 minutes.”

Meanwhile, Rowane was running in aid of Myeloma UK and the Alzheimers Society.

She said: “I absolutely loved it. I’m really happy with my time of four hours and 15 minutes.

“The crowds were absolutely amazing and the event was very well-organised.

“A great experience and even greater day!”

The trio are all members of Annan and District Athletic Club and were successful in a ballot to represent the club in London.
