End on a high!

End on a high!

But before they get underway, the Galabankies still have two league games left to play and the boss wants his players to end on a high ahead of the battle for promotion.

The Black and Golds were beaten 3-1 at Forthbank last weekend after Stirling lodged a comeback to lift the title crown. An own goal from Max Kilsby immediately cancelled out Chris Johnston’s opener. And second half strikes from Jack Leitch and Flynn Duffy gave The Binos victory.

Murphy said: “I think we let ourselves down with the goals that we conceded.

“Because they were in a bit of a party atmosphere, our players maybe got sucked in to the emotions of the game.

“We just got outdone by silly errors that we made as a team. They only needed a draw but we gifted them goals.”

Athletic could be missing a number of players at the back tomorrow as Scott Hooper is suspended and Wullie Gibson is also likely to be missing, while Steven Swinglehurst was replaced during halftime at Forthbank as a precaution.

But the gaffer insists there is plenty of cover within the squad.

Murphy added: “Obviously we want to finish on a high. I think after the learning experience last week, Bonnyrigg is a good game to come into. We are looking to take three points.

“Charlie Barnes and Tommy Muir did well. We have plenty of cover.”

Earlier this week it was announced that Reece Lyon will be leaving Morton at the end of the campaign despite having a year left on his contract. It is no secret that Lyon would be welcome back at Annan next season, but Murphy believes clubs from above will also be vying for the player’s signature.

He said: “Reece would be a player that I would be keen to have. But considering how well he’s done since he’s came in, he should have offers from higher up.

“We have made it clear that we would like to keep him.”
