ROADS policing officers are urging drivers and motorcyclists to take extra care whilst travelling through Dumfries and Galloway this weekend.
For The North West 200 motorcycle road race event started on Thursday and runs until Saturday in Northern Ireland.
And it attracts spectators from all over Scotland and afar and results in an increased number of motorcycles travelling through the area to the port of Stranraer to catch the ferry.
Inspector Craig Beaver said: “There will be increased police patrols on the A77 and A75 utilising both marked and unmarked motorcycles, and I urge those travelling to and from this event to be considerate of other road users.
“We want everyone to enjoy such events however any drivers/riders found to be taking risks and placing themselves and others in danger will be dealt with appropriately.”
