Wylie scores magnificent double pro-am win

DUMFRIES and Galloway race ace Ross Wylie swept the Glenturret Porsche to two magnificent and dominant Pro-Am victories in the latest Porsche Carrera Cup GB races at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Wylie, from Thornhill, qualified second in class, eighth overall, in treacherously wet conditions on the Brands 1.2-mile “Indy” circuit while race day dawned overcast but dry.

Wylie made a lightning start at the green light of race one and took the chequered flag a superb sixth overall, scoring a magnificent maiden class victory.

Ross lost two places overall to “Pro” drivers at the start of race two in the Glenturret Porsche but importantly retained the Pro-Am class lead prior to another safety car period.

Wylie drove majestically to score a fantastic second class win in front of a large crowd and TV cameras. The next rounds of the series are at Thruxton over June 3-4.

Speaking after the race, Ross said: “It was a great weekend and I’m very happy to score two class victories for Glenturret.

“The Porsche was a handful in the very wet qualifying on Saturday but nevertheless really good fun. Sunday’s races were on a dry track and I nailed the start of race one, gaining a couple of positions which was the key to winning Pro-Am.

“I had a train of pro drivers queued up behind me but I managed to maintain a good pace to keep them behind me for a P6 overall finish. I let a couple of pro [driver] driven cars overtake me early in race two as my focus was on Pro-Am honours.

“Thanks to Team Redline Racing for giving me a fast, competitive car for the weekend, of course my main sponsor Glenturret but also AL-2 Teknik UK, PyroDry and Carronbridge Sawmill.”
