Drop in sessions for Craig Nab

A SERIES of public exhibitions will take place next week on the plans for a ‘wind hub’ at Craig Nab, in Galloway.

Belltown Power want to put five turbines, with tip heights of up to 230 metres, and a battery storage facility on the site 4km east of New Luce.

It would produce enough energy to power 30,000 homes and will save

two million tonnes of C02 over its 40 year lifespan.

Representatives from developers will be holding drop in sessions on June 13 at the McMillan Hall in Newton Stewart from 10 am-1 pm; then at New Luce Village Hall from 3-7 pm. They will also be at

Stranraer Millennium Centre, from 10 am -1 pm on June 14, followed by Glenluce Public Hall from 3-7 pm that day.

In addition, there will be a virtual exhibition from June 12 to July 7 online at www.craignabwindenergyhub.com.

Education, local businesses and suppliers are invited along to find out more about opportunities for them.

Bellpower CEO Paul Hewett said: “Communities, education and the environment are at the heart of everything we do.

“This project is an opportunity for your community to contribute to tackling climate change in a significant way through hosting and part owning a modern wind energy hub.

“Craig Nab Wind Energy Hub has the potential to make a sizeable contribution to the decarbonisation of our electricity system and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.”

Meanwhile, the community is being encouraged to fill out a feedback form with their views and register for project updates.

There will be a further consultation later this year where the firm will present their developed plans ahead of submitting a planning application.
