Hamster home hunt

The pets, one of which was dead, were found in a garden in the township.
A resident of Melbourne Court spotted one of them in their garden last Friday and alerted officials.
And a second hamster, which had sadly passed away, was then found within a small blue box in a hedge.
The surviving hamster is now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Ayr.
Inspector Gerry Laurie said: “We believe both hamsters were abandoned in the box and one escaped. This was a very cruel act and we are keen to hear from anyone who has any information about this incident.
“Thankfully the surviving hamster is doing well and we will soon find her a loving new home.”
Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
