Library revamp welcomed but more info wanted

QUESTIONS are being asked about how the library service will operate in Lockerbie this summer.

The Customer Service Centre (CSC) is being refurbished and the current library will close for works from July 3 to October 2.

During that time a relocated service will operate out of the town hall and the opening times at Lochmaben CSC will also be extended.

Appointments will be available at both sites for anyone wanting bus passes, food parcels, national entitlement cards, blue badges and registration services, as well as public access to PCs.

However, Lockerbie Community Council chairperson Jan Andrews this week queried what’s happening with the library side of things.

Speaking at the group’s meeting on Tuesday night, she said: “What if you want a library book, are they moving them too?

“The notice does not say anything about the books.”

She also raised concerns over the limited hours in Lockerbie Town Hall and added: “I see they are extending Lochmaben’s hours too, but given the lack of buses to Lochmaben and the times of those buses, how does someone who relies on the library get to Lochmaben?

“There’s not enough buses there and back.”

Member Doreen Jenkins queried if the mobile library could be resurrected as an alternative.

Ms Andrews added: “They are refurbishing and investing in the site, which is good.”

Annandale North Councillor Carolyne Wilson explained library users will be able to order books on the website and collect and drop them off at the town hall.
