Team GB call for Chris

Chris Brown was successfully chosen to represent the country and will now be battling for his first starting position in the squad for the friendly fixture against France in September.

The 18-year-old – who plays as a wide receiver for East Kilbride and has already made the Scotland under-19s squad – admits it was a nervy wait as he was glued to his phone waiting for the call.

Chris, who used to be a pupil at Annan Academy, said: “I was so shocked. I didn’t expect this at all. I didn’t think I’d even get into the Scotland team never mind GB.

“I was staring at the phone for several days and messaging my teammate who was also in the same boat.

“We both received the text at the same time. I found out the news whilst at a barbecue whilst with my girlfriend and her family. It was a fantastic moment. I’m going to train madly until the friendly date.”

Chris – who is a San Francisco 49ers supporter – has also been offered a prestigious place at Filton PRIDE Academy in Bristol – a feeder school to the European leagues and American football colleges.

As well as playing the full contact format of the game, Chris also plays Flag Football locally with a cohort of Annan players breaking through in the gridiron scene right now – alongside local team mates Sy Keenan and Dominic Lewis in the Carlisle based Border City Centurions.
