Jamboree joy for South's leading ladies

Three teams each featuring eight of the best ladies players from Dumfriesshire, Galloway and the Borders played a round robin across Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Each team played a scheduled three foursomes in the morning and six singles in the afternoon on each day.

The Dumfriesshire team was made up of players from Dumfries and County, Powfoot, Lochmaben and the Crichton.

They were: joint captains – Elena Coppola and Fiona McGregor; and team members Cori Lee, Diane Macdonald, Katie McCracken, Ellie Harkness, Amy McKie, Yvonne Scheinder, Fiona Allison and Linda Jack.

A spectacle of golf was played over the three days in good spirits. The weather at Powfoot was testing with the wind and hard ground conditions, but the ladies showed why they are the top players in each of their counties as the level of golf on show was outstanding.

The overall victors, Dumfriesshire Ladies, now go on to represent the South of Scotland in the county finals at Glasgow Hilton Park Golf Club from September 1 to 3, where they will take on the North, West and East County.

Joint Dumfriesshire captains Elena and Fiona said: “It was a great three days of golf and very much a team effort both on the course and off the course with our caddies and supporters. We are looking forward to the county finals in Glasgow.”
