Greensands parking goes to council

PLANNERS will next week urge councillors to give the green light for work to take place on a new car park at the Greensands.

The Greensands Improvements were drawn up as part of the Whitesands Flood Protection Scheme, as a way of providing extra parking spaces.

However, a restriction was imposed that it could not be implemented ahead of the other main works.

Officials are now arguing there would be “clear benefits” to advancing the Greenlands scheme as the flood project itself has stalled.

But their stance has attracted 34 objections, as well as opposition from Loreburn Community Council on social and biodiversity grounds.

They say: “The whole Whitesands Project is under review. This is a proposal to build a car parking for a flood scheme that may never happen.”

Due to the amount of representation, the proposal will go before the planning committee on Wednesday.
