A LOCKERBIE author launched his latest book at the town’s library last Thursday.
‘Dark Sky at Night, Tourists’ Delight’ by Geoffrey Lindop is equal parts a guide for visitors, as it describes how to find your way in the sky, and what you can see during the summer months; and also a love letter to the area’s dark skies, as Geoffrey explained: “Some astronomers hate the summer as there’s not so many stars about because the sky is so light but it’s less complicated for tourists, so they’re able to see where Cassiopeia and other famous constellations are. And if they come back in the winter months when the sky is really fantastic they’ll be bowled over but how many stars there are.”
The launch event also served as a fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease in memory of his wife who recently passed away from the disease.
In total he raised £22 for the charity but hopes that more donations will come in as the book sells,
Geoffrey said: “At the back of the book is a link to mynames5doddie, the charity founded by rugby legend Doddie Weir to raise money for MND Research.
“I hope that future readers of the book will make a happy ending by donating to Doddie’s charity.”
