Sam’s ‘saw-n off’ the competition

MOFFAT-BORN chainsaw carver Sam Bowsher has come up trumps in a televised competition.

The 25-year-old competed against 12 other carvers of the first series of ‘A Cut Above’ on Discovery.

Described as the ultimate chainsaw carving competition, the series was filmed in Canada with challenges on artistry, stamina and carving skills, to re-imagine ordinary wood logs into jaw-dropping works of art.

For the final, Sam and the other finalists were tasked to create a carving inspired by the theme ‘the heroes journey’.

Sam chose to carve a viking which ended by standing at well over six feet tall, he was inspired by a warrior’s quest to travel in search of glory and riches.

In a statement posted online after the final aired Sam said: “Well, that all got very exciting last night.

“From using my toy chainsaws pretending to be my dad, to winning A Cut Above! I have loved chainsaw carving all the way.

“An absolute honour to win this show and to be there alongside Chris and Ryan was even better.”
