Lockerbie pictures plea

John Connery used to drive buses, for Nottinghamshire based Barton Transport, from Glasgow to Corby, in Northamptonshire, between 1967 and 1972.

On his journey he would frequently stop in at Lockerbie to get food at the Rex Restaurant and sweets from the shop next door.

It was at the sweetie shop where he met his future wife, Hazel Gordon. She was brought up in the town’s Cruden Terrace.

After courting for five years, the pair got married and emigrated to Australia together.

They eventually ended up moving back to Scotland and took up residence in Rosyth.

Sadly, Hazel passed away a couple of years ago. The pair had enjoyed 49 years of marriage.

John, 78, from Glasgow, said: “Lockerbie was a very quiet and lovely wee town, and Hazel was a wonderful wife.”

Now he is hoping to find some old pictures to reinvigorate memories from years gone by. John is appealing for any pictures of the old restaurant and J and J Steels between 1967 and 1972.

Anyone who may have anything of interest and would like to get in touch with John can do so by emailing him at [email protected]
