IT’S the first Saturday in August and that can only mean one thing: it’s time for Dumfries Show.
The preparations and set up are nearly complete at Park Farm and the organising committee are now looking forward to a good turnout and hoping for dry weather for at least some of the day.
Livestock entries are looking good, with 79 dairy cattle, 212 beef, 813 sheep, 48 goats and 359 horses all registered.
Dumfries will also play host to both the Scottish Simmental Club Show and the British Berrichon Scottish National Show this year.
It all starts on Friday with the home and garden arts section, which will be open to the public from 3-9 pm, with the trophy presentation taking place at 7.30 pm in the Green Shed.
Friday will also see the start of the showjumping and horse competitions.
But the bulk of the action and judging will be on Saturday, starting from 9 am, with the grand parade of livestock winners expected at 2.15 pm. Presenting the trophies this year will be Carolyn Hastings.
Away from the animals, there will be plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy, including a wide variety of trade stands, featuring tractors, machinery, cars, renewable energy, toys and more.
There will be 50 side stalls in the craft fayre offering handmade goods, as well as spinning displays in the wool tent, while TV chef Tony Singh will be doing demonstrations as part of the food festival.
The main ring will feature entertainment from the On The Edge Display Team, Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Foxhounds and Dumfries Pipe Band.
And the Young Farmers will be running competitions, there will be a rodeo bull, vintage machinery on display, face painting, balloons and bubbles.
